Metronomes
Gordy, from our Monday night slow jam at Homestead, asked about how to use a metronome. (I recommended they commonly use one for practice.) My first recommendation is to ask your instructor about this. They can practice with you to assure that you really understand how to use a metronome. If you aren't taking lessons, maybe just one lesson would be a good idea to learn how to use one of the most effective practice tools, a metronome. Here is the list of instructors at Homestead in Minneapolis: http://www.homesteadpickinparlor.com/instruct.htm.
Info on metronomes -- I went to the Internet and did a few searches on metronomes. I have put some of what I found in this document. Included are what a metronome is, a little about a couple of brands and models, along with price and where you might buy one, a basic description of how to use a metronome, and a more detailed description of how to use one. Keep in mind that I'm not an instructor, and I highly recommend working with one if all of this is a bit muddy. To view this metronome information, click here.
